Any Indian citizen above 18 years of age can apply for a PMEGP loan. This includes individual entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), registered societies, cooperative societies, and charitable trusts.

The business must be a new project (not an existing unit or one that has already availed any government subsidy). For manufacturing projects costing above ₹10 lakh and service/business projects above ₹5 lakh, the applicant must have passed at least 8th standard (Class VIII).

Government-backed funding with a subsidy of up to 35% of the project cost (the exact percentage depends on the applicant’s category and location). Minimal personal investment required. The scheme supports a wide range of micro and small business ideas in both rural and urban areas.
